Canopy / Concentrates
Concentrates are highly potent cannabis extracts ranging from 50-95% THC. Shatter, wax, live resin, live rosin, diamonds, and crumble. Consumed primarily through dabbing with specialized equipment.
Advanced Product. Concentrates are not recommended for beginners. If you are new to cannabis, explore flower or edibles first.
What are concentrates?
Cannabis concentrates are products made by extracting cannabinoids and terpenes from the plant material, resulting in a highly potent substance. While flower typically contains 12-28% THC, concentrates range from 50-95%.
Extraction methods fall into two categories: solvent-based (using butane, CO2, or ethanol to dissolve trichomes) and solventless (using heat, pressure, or ice water to physically separate trichomes). The method determines the texture, flavor, and purity of the final product.
Concentrates are consumed primarily through dabbing: applying a small amount to a heated surface and inhaling the resulting vapor through a water pipe (dab rig). The onset is immediate, effects are intense, and the experience is significantly stronger than smoking flower.
Concentrates at a Glance
Textures, potencies, and extractions.
Each concentrate type has a distinct texture, potency range, and flavor profile. The extraction method determines what you get.
Shatter
Translucent, amber-colored concentrate that snaps cleanly when broken. Produced through solvent-based extraction (typically BHO). Stable, easy to handle, and highly potent. A staple for experienced dabbers.
Wax / Budder
Soft, malleable concentrate with a butter-like or waxy consistency. Whipped during processing to incorporate air. Easier to work with than shatter for beginners to concentrates. Rich terpene retention.
Live Resin
Made from fresh-frozen cannabis (never dried or cured). Preserves the full terpene profile of the living plant. Superior flavor and aroma compared to cured-plant extracts. The gold standard for terpene chasers.
Live Rosin
Solventless concentrate made using heat and pressure on fresh-frozen material. No chemical solvents at any stage. The purest expression of the plant. Complex flavor, full-spectrum effects. Premium pricing.
Diamonds and Sauce
THCA crystals (diamonds) suspended in a terpene-rich liquid (sauce). The crystals deliver extreme potency while the sauce provides flavor and entourage effects. Among the strongest products available.
Crumble
A dry, honeycomb-like concentrate that breaks apart easily. Produced by purging wax at lower temperatures. Easy to measure and handle. Works well sprinkled on flower in a bowl or joint for an added kick.
What you need to get started.
Dabbing requires specialized equipment. Here is what each piece does and what to expect to spend. Total startup cost: $50-250 for a basic setup.
Dab Rig
$30-500+A water pipe designed specifically for concentrates. Smaller than a typical bong, with a fitting for a nail or banger instead of a bowl. Water filtration cools the vapor for smoother hits.
Nail / Banger
$10-80The heated surface where concentrate is vaporized. Quartz bangers offer the best flavor. Titanium nails heat faster and are nearly indestructible. Ceramic provides even heating. Quartz is the most popular choice.
Torch
$15-40A butane torch used to heat the nail to the proper temperature. Heat the nail until glowing, then let it cool for 30-60 seconds before applying concentrate. Alternatively, use an e-nail for precise electronic temperature control.
Carb Cap
$10-30A cap placed over the nail after applying concentrate. Restricts airflow and traps heat, allowing the concentrate to vaporize at lower temperatures. Essential for flavorful, efficient low-temp dabs.
Dab Tool
$5-15A small metal or glass tool used to handle and apply concentrate to the heated nail. Different tip shapes work better for different textures: pointed for shatter, scooped for wax and budder.
Respect the potency.
Concentrates demand respect. These are the strongest cannabis products available. Follow these guidelines seriously.
Not for Beginners
Concentrates are 2-4 times stronger than flower. If you are new to cannabis, start with flower, pre-rolls, or low-dose edibles first. Build familiarity with THC effects before exploring concentrates.
Start Extremely Small
A single dab the size of a grain of rice is a full dose for many people. Overconsumption of concentrates can cause intense anxiety, nausea, and extreme discomfort. You can always take more; you cannot take less.
Torch Safety
Butane torches produce an open flame exceeding 2,000 degrees F. Never use near flammable materials. Let the nail cool before touching anything. Store torches upright with the valve closed. Consider an e-nail for safer, flameless operation.
Know Your Tolerance
Regular concentrate use builds tolerance quickly. Take breaks to reset. If you find yourself needing increasingly large dabs to feel effects, a tolerance break (even a few days) can help restore sensitivity.
Preserve the quality.
Concentrates are sensitive to heat, light, and air. Proper storage maintains potency and flavor.
Store concentrates in a cool, dark place (60-70 degrees F ideal).
Use silicone or glass containers. Parchment paper works for short-term.
Avoid heat: concentrates degrade and lose terpenes when exposed to warmth.
Keep away from direct sunlight, which breaks down cannabinoids over time.
Most concentrates stay potent for 6-12 months with proper storage.
Lab-tested, licensed, legitimate.
Every concentrate at Take N' Toke is produced by New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) licensed processors. All products undergo mandatory third-party lab testing, which is especially critical for high-potency products.
Residual solvent testing is particularly important for concentrates. Licensed products are verified to contain no harmful solvent levels. This is a key reason to buy exclusively from licensed dispensaries.
For use only by adults 21 years of age and older. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Cannabis can impair concentration, coordination, and judgment. Do not operate a vehicle or machinery under the influence of cannabis. Licensed by New York Office of Cannabis Management.
