Canopy / Flower
What is cannabis flower?
Cannabis flower refers to the dried, trimmed buds of the female cannabis plant. These buds contain the highest concentration of cannabinoids (like THC and CBD) and terpenes (the compounds that give each strain its unique aroma and effects).
When you walk into Take N' Toke, flower is the most prominent category on our shelves. It comes in pre-weighed containers (typically 1g, 3.5g, 7g, or 14g), each labeled with the strain name, THC/CBD percentages, terpene profile, and cultivator information.
Flower is consumed by smoking (in a pipe, bong, or rolled into a joint) or by vaporizing in a dry herb vaporizer. The onset is rapid, typically 1-5 minutes, with effects lasting 1-3 hours. This immediate feedback loop makes flower the easiest category for learning what works for you.

Indica, Sativa, and Hybrid.
While modern genetics blur the lines, these three categories still provide a useful starting framework for understanding what to expect from a strain.

Hybrid
BlendedBlended effects combining characteristics of both Indica and Sativa. Hybrids can lean one direction or offer a balanced middle ground. The most versatile category.
Flexible situations, balanced relaxation with gentle energy, first-time exploration.
Terpenes and effects.
Terpenes are aromatic compounds that give each strain its unique smell and taste. Research suggests they also influence the overall effect, working alongside THC and CBD in what scientists call the "entourage effect."
Myrcene
RelaxingEarthy, musky, herbal
The most common terpene in cannabis. Found in mangoes, hops, and lemongrass. Associated with calming, sedating effects. Dominant in many Indica-leaning strains.
Limonene
UpliftingCitrus, lemon, orange
Bright citrus character found in lemon rinds and orange peels. Associated with mood elevation and stress relief. Common in Sativa-leaning strains.
Pinene
FocusPine, fresh, woody
The most abundant terpene in nature, found in pine needles and rosemary. Associated with alertness and mental clarity. May counteract some THC-related memory effects.
Caryophyllene
GroundingSpicy, peppery, warm
Found in black pepper, cloves, and cinnamon. The only terpene known to interact with the endocannabinoid system directly. Associated with grounding, anti-inflammatory properties.
Choosing the right flower.
Three factors will narrow your options quickly. Our staff will walk you through each one, but here's the framework.
Intention
What do you want from this experience? Relaxation, creativity, socializing, sleep, pain management? Your goal narrows the field quickly.
Potency Tolerance
If you're new to cannabis, start with lower THC strains (12-18%). Experienced consumers may prefer higher potency (20%+). THC percentage isn't everything, but it's a starting point.
Consumption Method
Smoking in a pipe or joint gives the most direct flower experience. Dry herb vaporizers offer a smoother, more flavor-forward method. Each method may alter perceived effects slightly.
What good flower looks like.
At Take N' Toke, everything on our shelves passes our quality standards. But understanding what makes flower good helps you appreciate what you're buying.
Visual
Look for rich color (greens, purples, oranges), visible trichome crystals (frosty appearance), and dense but not compressed bud structure. Avoid brown, dry, or stemmy flower.
Aroma
Quality flower has a strong, distinct smell. Each strain should express its terpene profile clearly. If it smells like hay or has no aroma, it was likely improperly cured.
Moisture
Properly cured flower should be slightly sticky but not wet. It should break apart with light pressure, not crumble to dust or feel damp. Squeeze test: gentle give, springs back.
Lab Testing
All products at Take N' Toke carry OCM-approved lab results showing THC/CBD percentages, terpene profiles, and confirmation of testing for pesticides, heavy metals, and microbials.
Keep it fresh.
Proper storage preserves potency, flavor, and quality. Follow these guidelines to get the most from your flower.
Store in an airtight glass jar away from direct sunlight.
Keep at room temperature (60-70 degrees F) with 55-62% relative humidity.
Avoid plastic bags, which build static and degrade trichomes.
Do not refrigerate or freeze, as moisture fluctuations damage flower quality.
Use within 6-12 months for optimal freshness and potency.
