Canopy / Tinctures
Tinctures are liquid cannabis extracts dosed with a dropper. Taken sublingually or mixed into food and beverages. No smoke, no vapor, precise dosing, and the most flexible consumption method available.
Tinctures sold at Take N' Toke are adult-use cannabis products. They are not medical products and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
What are tinctures?
Cannabis tinctures are liquid extracts, typically in a small bottle with a measured dropper. They contain cannabinoids (THC, CBD, or both) suspended in a carrier liquid, usually MCT oil, coconut oil, or food-grade alcohol.
The dropper allows precise, repeatable dosing, often down to 1mg increments. This makes tinctures the most controllable cannabis product available, especially well-suited for microdosing and for those building a consistent routine.
Tinctures bridge the gap between edibles and inhalation. When taken sublingually (under the tongue), they absorb faster than edibles but slower than smoking. When swallowed, they behave like edibles. This flexibility makes them uniquely versatile.
Tinctures at a Glance
How to take tinctures.
The way you take a tincture determines how fast it hits and how long it lasts. Three methods, each with its own timeline.
Sublingual
Place drops under the tongue and hold for 60-90 seconds before swallowing. The mucous membranes absorb cannabinoids directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system. Faster onset and more predictable dosing than oral consumption.
Oral (Swallowed)
Swallow the tincture directly or mix into food or beverages. Cannabinoids pass through the digestive system and liver, similar to edibles. Slower onset but potentially longer-lasting effects. Good for those who dislike the taste held under the tongue.
Mixed into Food / Beverages
Add measured drops to coffee, tea, smoothies, salad dressing, or any food. Same onset profile as oral consumption. An easy way to incorporate cannabis into a routine without smoking or obvious consumption. Dose precisely with the dropper.
THC, CBD, and beyond.
Tinctures come in various cannabinoid ratios, each producing a different experience. Choosing the right ratio is the most important decision.
THC-Dominant
10:1 THC:CBDPrimarily THC with minimal CBD. Delivers the full psychoactive effects of cannabis in liquid form. Available in a range of potencies. Best for consumers who want a traditional cannabis experience without smoking.
CBD-Dominant
10:1 CBD:THCPrimarily CBD with minimal THC. Little to no psychoactive effect. Popular for daytime use, managing everyday stress, or supporting general wellness. A good option for those who want benefits without impairment.
Balanced
1:1 THC:CBDEqual parts THC and CBD. The CBD moderates some of the intensity of THC, producing a more balanced, less overwhelming experience. Popular among those who find pure THC too strong or those exploring cannabis therapeutically.
Full-Spectrum
Multiple cannabinoidsContains THC, CBD, and a range of minor cannabinoids (CBG, CBN, CBC) along with terpenes. Designed to leverage the entourage effect for the most comprehensive plant experience in a tincture format.
Finding your dose.
Tinctures excel at precise dosing. Start at the lowest level and increase gradually over multiple sessions. The dropper makes repeating your dose easy once you find what works.
Microdose
1-2.5 mg THCSub-perceptual to very mild effects. For those seeking subtle relief or enhancement without any impairment. Popular for daytime use, focus, and general wellness routines. Start here if you are new to tinctures.
Starter
2.5-5 mg THCMild, noticeable effects. Gentle relaxation, slight mood lift. Most people can function normally. The recommended starting dose for anyone new to THC tinctures. Wait at least 2 hours before adjusting.
Standard
5-10 mg THCClear psychoactive effects. Relaxation, euphoria, and potential perceptual shifts. Appropriate for consumers with established tolerance who know how their body responds to THC.
High
10-25 mg+ THCStrong effects for experienced consumers only. Significant relaxation and euphoria. Not recommended until you have established your personal response at lower doses over multiple sessions.
Who tinctures are for.
Tinctures fit a wide range of situations and consumer types. Here are the most common use cases.
Daytime Use (CBD-Dominant)
Non-ImpairingA CBD-dominant tincture taken sublingually in the morning can support calm focus throughout the day without impairment. No psychoactive effects means you can use it before work, meetings, or driving.
Evening Relaxation (THC-Dominant)
RelaxingA THC-dominant tincture after dinner supports winding down. Sublingual administration means effects arrive in 15-45 minutes, making it easy to time with your evening routine. Predictable onset, no smoke.
Non-Smokers
Smoke-FreeTinctures offer the full range of cannabis effects without any inhalation. No smoke, no vapor, no lung involvement. The simplest consumption method for people who want cannabis but refuse to inhale anything.
Sleep Support
NighttimeTHC tinctures (especially indica-leaning formulas or those with added CBN) taken 30-60 minutes before bed can support the transition to sleep. Sublingual dosing provides a more predictable timeline than edibles.
Professional Settings
DiscreetCBD-only tinctures in a small bottle look identical to any wellness supplement. Discreet, odorless, and non-impairing. Can be dosed precisely and consistently throughout the day.
What the tincture is made with.
The carrier liquid affects taste, absorption speed, and overall experience. Here are the main options.
Alcohol-Based
Traditional tincture carrier. Fast sublingual absorption but strong, bitter taste that some find unpleasant. Most efficient for sublingual use. Often the most affordable option.
Oil-Based (MCT / Coconut)
Cannabis extract suspended in MCT or coconut oil. Milder taste than alcohol-based, smoother under the tongue. Slightly slower sublingual absorption. The most popular carrier type in the current market.
Flavored
Oil or alcohol base with added natural flavoring (mint, citrus, berry). Makes the sublingual experience more palatable. Check that flavoring is natural and the product is still OCM-tested.
Maximizing shelf life.
Tinctures have the longest shelf life of any cannabis product when stored correctly. Follow these guidelines to preserve potency.
Store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight.
Keep the bottle upright and tightly sealed after each use.
Most tinctures have a 1-2 year shelf life when properly stored.
Refrigeration is not required but can extend freshness for oil-based formulas.
Do not store near heat sources. Cannabinoids degrade with prolonged heat exposure.
